Officers from the Norman Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint from 1140 p.m. to 2:40 a.m. Friday night (12-18-09) into Saturday morning (12-19-09). The checkpoint was held at the intersection of NW 36th Avenue and Quail Drive with both the northbound and southbound lanes of travel being checked. Officers checked a total of 152 vehicles and made arrests for the following offenses as a result of the checkpoint:

         2 DUI

        1 Possession of Marijuana

        1 Possession of Paraphernalia

        1 Transporting an Open Container

The officers received mostly positive comments from the citizens passing through the checkpoint, which were very much appreciated especially since the weather was cold. We want the motoring public to have a good time and enjoy themselves however; we want them to stay alive.  Our goal is to have zero alcohol related deaths during the holiday season, and the Norman Police Department is committed to doing all they can to help the citizens stay safe and save lives.
