Public safety officials in Norman are initiating AlertNorman powered by Rave Smart911, a new mass notification system, for all Norman residents. AlertNorman is a free service that allows residents to sign-up for notifications sent from local authorities including the Norman Police Department and the Norman Fire Department/Emergency Management. The new alert system will keep residents and visitors to the community informed on potentially hazardous situations involving weather, traffic, law enforcement activities, and other emergencies.

“AlertNorman enables local authorities to notify residents in real time,” said Norman Chief of Police Keith Humphrey. “This service allows us to communicate critical information with the public such as instructions on how to stay safe or take precautions during hazardous or emergency situations.”

AlertNorman enables Norman residents and visitors to sign-up at http://bit.ly/2tnkEif to receive timely and actionable emergency alerts via email, text or voice message on their cell phones. They can also identify when and how they are alerted and communicated with before, during, and after an emergency incident.

“Residents that sign-up will receive notifications that will improve safety in our city and help inform residents of potentially lifesaving actions they may need to take in an emergency,” said Chief Keith Humphrey. “The information sent out by AlertNorman allows both residents and first responders to be better informed in an emergency situation. We encourage all members of our community and their families’ sign up for AlertNorman in order to be prepared should an emergency occur.”

Residents are encouraged to sign-up for AlertNorman and input their information and notification preferences today on the secure Smart911 online system. By signing up for AlertNorman, the information provided by residents will immediately be available to dispatchers and first responders as they respond to an incident. The portal is private and secure, is only utilized for emergency responses.
