Norman Police Arrest One in Connection to Fatal Collision

On August 9, 2018 at approximately 12:36 P.M. members of the Norman Police Department responded to a reported injury collision near the intersection of Flood Ave and Venture Dr. Upon arrival officers located a two vehicle head-on collision. Both drivers of the collision were injured and transported to a local hospital by EMSSTAT.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Nicole Chavez, age 43 of Blanchard, OK, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. Chaves was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and later released. The investigation into the incident indicates Chaves was impaired at the time of the collision. She was taken into custody by the Norman Police Department and transported to the F. DeWayne Beggs Detention Center where she was booked in on one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree.

Chavez’s vehicle struck a northbound 2017 Ford Fiesta that was driven by Danielle Bamford, age 23 of Norman, OK. Bamford was transported to a local hospital where she later passed away as a result of injuries she sustained in the collision. No other persons or vehicles were involved in the collision.

Portions of Flood Ave were closed until approximately 6 P.M. while the scene was investigated and made safe for the public. The Norman Fire Department and Oklahoma Department of Transportation also responded to the incident to provide assistance. The collision remains under investigation by the Norman Police/OUPD Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team.
