The Norman Police Department responded to a report of an injury collision in the 1300 block of 180th Avenue NE at approximately 3:12 p.m. Monday. The preliminary investigation into the collision indicates that 64-year-old Bonnie Charlene Hughes had parked in her driveway and crossed 180th Avenue NE to retrieve her mail from her mailbox. Upon crossing back over to her vehicle, Hughes was struck by a Cadillac SRX that was traveling southbound on 180th Avenue NE. The Cadillac SRX did not stop and left the scene of the collision eastbound on State Highway 9. First reports of the suspect vehicle being a white van were false, as dash camera video from a witness vehicle confirmed the Cadillac SRX was the vehicle involved in the collision.

Hughes was transported by MediFlight to OU Medical Center where she remains in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Cadillac SRX turned herself in to the Norman Police Department this afternoon. The driver has been identified as 38-year-old Misti Dawn Miller of Newalla. Miller was not injured in the collision. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

180th Avenue NE from State Highway 9 to Rock Creek Road was closed just over two hours while the scene was investigated. The collision remains under investigation by the NPD/OUPD Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
