The Norman Police Department responded to a report of a critical injury collision on 60th Avenue SE just south of Lindsey Street on Saturday at 11:06 a.m. The preliminary investigation into the collision indicates that a 2008 Dodge Viper traveling southbound on 60th Avenue SE lost control causing the vehicle to go into a broad slide about a quarter mile south of Lindsey Street. The vehicle continued off the roadway hitting a tree on the west side of the roadway. Investigators believe the vehicle’s speed at the time of the collision contributed to the vehicle being torn in half upon impact.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 49-year-old Jeffery Muehring of Norman. Muehring was found deceased at the scene of the collision. The passenger of the vehicle has been identified as 41-year-old Gregory Higgins, Jr. of Mustang, Oklahoma. Higgins was also found deceased at the scene of the collision. Both Muehring and Higgins were wearing their seat belts.

A portion of 60th Avenue between Lindsey Street and State Highway 9 was closed to all traffic for approximately five hours. The collision is under investigation by the NPD/OUPD Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team (CIRT).
