The Norman Police Department responded to a report of a collision involving a northbound train and a pedestrian at the Acres Street railroad crossing at approximately 6:30 a.m. today. Once on scene, officers located one male deceased on the tracks from injuries sustained in the collision.

The initial investigation into the incident found the individual stepped in front of the train. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train engineer stated that he saw the individual and sounded the train’s horn prior to the collision. However, the individual did not heed the warning.

The collision remains under investigation.

Due to the investigation into the incident, the railroad crossings at Acres Street, Gray Street, Main Street, and Eufaula Street were closed for approximately two hours. All railroad crossings are now back open.

Identification of the deceased male is pending proper notifications.
