NPD Accepts Applications for Police Activities League Summer Camp

The Norman Police Department is now accepting applications for its Police Activities League (PAL) Summer Camp. The purpose of PAL Summer Camp is to foster relationships that will bridge the gaps between law enforcement and youth in the community, while also exposing the students to the possibility of a future career in public service. The goal is to motivate young people to be outstanding citizens and to empower them to act as a positive influence in the community.

The PAL Summer Camp will be held from July 10-28 at Longfellow Middle School, 215 N. Ponca Avenue. Participants will attend camp Monday through Friday of each week from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp is for students entering the 7th and 8th grade. There is no cost to attend. Breakfast and lunch are provided. 

The three-week experience combines classroom learning with hands-on activities. Participants will be exposed to a variety of topics including patrol tactics, criminal investigations, traffic safety, self-defense tactics, firearms safety, internet and social media safety, and weekly character values.

There are a limited number of spots available. To apply, download and complete the application packet found at: A recommendation must be submitted with the application. Completed application packets can be returned to MPO Carl Pendleton at the Norman Police Department, 201-B W. Gray Street. Priority is given to students who reside or attend school in the City of Norman. The deadline to apply is May 25.
