Norman residents who adopted a dog or cat from Norman Animal Welfare between January 1 and June 8 of this year can now visit the adoption facility to retrieve their pet license.

All pets adopted from the Norman Animal Welfare Center receive their first year pet license free of charge. However, during the transition of the city pet license program to the newly activated Pet Data system, Norman Animal Welfare was unable to provide adopted animals with a license. At this time, the licenses for these animals are now available. The licenses can only be picked up from the Norman Animal Welfare Adoption Center, 3428 Jenkins Avenue, at the owner’s convenience for no additional charge. The animal does not need to be with the resident when they visit the facility to pick-up the license. The waiver of the pet license fee does not apply to animals adopted from other businesses, shelters or rescues during the same time frame.

Norman city ordinance requires all Norman residents, who own a dog or cat over the age of six months old, to procure a city pet license for each animal they own. The licenses are generally valid for one year from the date the animal was adopted, or through the month the animal’s rabies vaccine expires, whichever comes first.

To provide residents adequate time to obtain their pet licenses, the city will only be providing warnings for all
violations through the end of August. Beginning September 1, all city pet license violations will be enforced by officers. The waiver for citations through September 1 will not be granted to animals that have not been previously registered or do not have a valid rabies vaccination.

All other Norman residents are reminded of the availability of the Pet Data website, www.PetData.com, where they can
register and renew pet licenses, as well as find additional information regarding other local sites where pet licenses are available for purchase or renewal.

The Norman Animal Welfare Center is located at 3428 Jenkins Avenue. The center is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. as well as 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays, city holidays, and the second Wednesday of each month.
