Public Firearms Familiarization and Safety Course

In partnership with the Centurion Consulting, the Norman Police Department, will be hosting a basic firearms safety course. The course will be open to residents of the City of Norman. The speaker will provide information on handgun nomenclature, operation, and safety. We will discuss the different types of handguns that residents may encounter and how they can be made safe.  We will also discuss general and home safety as well as common processes for keeping unauthorized persons from having access to your firearms.


Speakers will also provide basic information about HB 2597, the Oklahoma Constitutional Carry Bill scheduled to take effect on November 1st of this year.


This is not a class on shooting decisions nor will it provide instruction regarding the technical use of a firearm. Legal advice will not be provided and there will be no live fire. In accordance with state law, participants will not be allowed to be armed as the course is being held at a government facility.


The course will take place on October 25th from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Norman Investigations Center, 1507 W. Lindsey St. Due to facility space and anticipated interaction with the speaker(s) the course will be limited 50 participants. There is no charge for the course and those in attendance must sign up to reserve a seat. Residents interested in attending must sign up in advance by contacting Capt.
