On March 22 at 11 p.m., the Norman Police Department was dispatched to a report of an individual with a hatchet destroying shrubbery outside of the Walmart located at 3651 Classen Boulevard. It was reported to police that when approached by a store employee the individual pointed a firearm at the employee. The individual left the scene before officers arrived.

Shortly after, Norman police received a second call that an individual matching the same description had driven through the back fence of a fraternity house in the 1200 block of College Avenue. Preliminary information indicates that the individual, later identified as 21-year-old Vincent Peter Valentin, fired two rounds at the residence and one inside his vehicle. After being confronted by several members of the fraternity, Valentin pointed the gun at them and attempted to fire a shot. He also threw the hatchet, previously used at the incident at Walmart, toward the members. No one was injured during the either of these incidents.

Valentin fled the scene on foot. Officers later located Valentin near a residence just west of the fraternity with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Valentin was pronounced dead at the scene. The gun was located nearby.

Valentin is currently enrolled as a student at the University of Oklahoma. The events leading up to the incident and the relationship between Valentin and the fraternity remain under investigation. However, preliminary information indicates Valentin had prior issues with the fraternity.

The incident remains under investigation.
