UPDATE: NPD Arrests Juvenile in Connection to Homicide on Cockrell Avenue

Norman police have arrested a 15-year-old male for his role in this morning’s homicide in the 300 block of N. Cockrell Avenue. He was arrested on a complaint of Murder in the First Degree and is currently in the custody of the Norman Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of N. Cockrel Avenue at 1:35 a.m. today. Once on scene, officers located one adult male victim, later identified as 19-year-old Jamal Dixon, with a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His identification is pending next of kin notification.

The initial investigation into the incident revealed that the suspect and victim were involved in an altercation on the front porch of a residence in the 300 block of N. Cockrel Avenue when the suspect pulled out a gun shooting the victim one time in the chest. Shortly after, officers were able to locate all individuals and the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident. The weapon believed to have been used is still outstanding.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
